‘Friday Night’ is probably one of McFly‘s lesser-known singles, maybe? It was released as a double A-side with ‘Sorry’s Not Good Enough’. It’s a great, upbeat, punchy and anthemic song that I just couldn’t resist posting…especially as it’s about to reach its 10th anniversary!

The video for the song was self-directed by the band and filled with good humour. The song was taken from the band’s third album, Motion in the Ocean. It was also the feature track of the film, Night at the Museum which was also released in the same year.

For some reason, a lot of McFly’s videos have disappeared from their official YouTube account, but there’s a poor-quality version of the video below. Anyway, enjoy!

I can’t believe that Lily Allen‘s single, ‘LDN’, is now a decade old, but it’s still as amazing as ever; it’s timeless!

I remember first hearing this song and being captivated by her lyrical genius; it’s pop but with a humourous, honest twist to it and that’s what makes her stand out. She’s British, edgy, cool and quirky and that’s what makes her so damn epic!

The video for the song was excellent; perfect for the song and the song was brilliant for its originality. I admire Lily Allen greatly and hope for some new material from her soon. Everything she releases is brimming with brilliance so I have no doubt any new releases will be the same.

It was 10 years ago that American pop punk band, Yellowcard, released their single ‘Lights and Sounds’ from their album of the same title.

The song is fast-paced, intense and hard-hitting – it’s an incredible track filled with heavy guitars, rapid drumming and awesome, powerful vocals.

It’s sad to think that this year, 10 years on, the band are calling it a day and putting the band to rest, however this song is a testament to just how awesome and incredible the band are. They will be sorely missed – thanks guys for all the years of joy and music!

American ska-punk band, Less Than Jake, released their song ‘The Rest of My Life’ around 10 years ago now.

I love this song as it came out during my late teen years and it reminds me of a lot of those times. The song is very different to a lot of their previous releases as it takes on a more mature and mellower sound to their usual up-beat, fast-paced, in-your-face ska punk vibes.

The song was taken from the band’s sixth studio album, In with the Out Crowd, and was actually co-written with Mark Hoppus from Blink-182.

What are your thoughts on this track? Does it evoke any memories for you? Have you never heard it before? Please share your thoughts or own #ThrowbackThursday tracks in a comment below or via our social media.

Another classic track from 2006 (10 years ago!) is The Kooks‘ ‘Naïve’.

The song was released in March of 2006 and not only peaked at Number 5 in the UK charts but also found itself featured in an episode of One Tree Hill and the film 17 Again.

It is a funky song which skirts around the borders of Indie Rock and Pop and was the UK’s 19th best-selling song of 2006!

Do you like this Kooks track? Would you have chosen a different song of theirs? Or a different band/artist altogether? Please leave your #ThrowbackThursday song choice in a comment below.

Orson were a Brit-award wining band from Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

The band formed in 2000 and split in 2007, but it wasn’t until 2006 that the band really gained their first success, with their debut single, ‘No Tomorrow’.

This song ended up reaching Number 1 in the UK charts and went on to become the UK’s 12th best-selling single of 2006! Although many people think of the band as one-hit-wonders, they did in fact have 2 albums!

The song is a Power Pop/Indie Rock belter that just screams to be chanted at the top of your lungs, so go on, rock out your #ThrowbackThursday like it’s 2006 again!

I can’t believe this song is now 10 years old!

Back in 2006, Christina Aguilera released ‘Ain’t No Other Man’ as the lead single to her album Back To Basics.

This song was the start of a new era for Aguilera, as she took on a new sound, incorporating soul, blues, jazz and funk. The track also featured a couple of samples a brass sample from “Hippy Skippy Moon Strut” by Dave Cortez & The Moon People, and a vocal sample “The Cissy’s Thang” by The Soul Seven.

The track did really well, reaching Number 2 in the UK charts and the music video was predictably 1920s themed and perfect for the song.

Were you a fan of the song, back in the day? Are you still a fan of the song? Have you got any good memories of this song? Please share your #ThrowbackThursday songs with us too!

Can you believe this song was released 10 years ago?! This seems insane to me; this was definitely one of my “emo” jams back in the day!

I remember just how all-consuming and intensely captivating this song was – it just took over the scene and saw a whole generation of emo kids wearing hussar-style jackets in homage to the band!

‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ was also the first and only UK Number 1 for the band but it was truly well deserved! This 5-minute epic masterpiece was just that; a masterpiece! It had everything going for it, the calm piano introduction leading to the rousing military drums into the full-on, in-your-face guitar riffs.

The video for the song was epic too – it sees “The Patient” die and get welcomed by “The Black Parade” into what can only be the afterlife.

I. LOVE. THIS. SONG!

It’s just a remarkable, well-crafted song that will surely be admired by future generations of emo-kids for years to come!

Were you a fan of the song first time around? What do you think of it now? Are you only just discovering it? What do you think? Please share your love of this by posting the link on social media.

Man, I miss Lady Sovereign! She’s been off the scene since about 2009 now, but she had some awesome songs, so this one’s for SOV!

In 2005, Lady Sov released her second single, ‘9 To 5’, which gained her much popularity on certain TV channels, even though it reached only Number 33 in the UK charts. It was also taken from her debut album, ‘Public Warning’ which was released on Def Jam. The song also contains a sample from the British film, Time Bandits and went on to be remixed by the British indie band, The Ordinary Boys – which went on to reach Number 6 in the UK charts!

Lady Sovereign – ‘9 To 5’

It was then in 2006 that Lady Sovereign released her fourth single from Public Warning‘Love Me Or Hate Me’, which was another big song for her! It was featured in the US television series’, The O.C. and Ugly Betty as well as in the video game, Need For Speed: Carbon.

The video for the song sees Sov appearing in Tetris-style blocks and acting out certain lyrics to the song.

Lady Sovereign – ‘Love Me Or Hate Me’

The last song I’m featuring today, was actually the first official single release for Lady Sovereign, from her debut album Public Warning and saw her sign to Def Jam Recordings shortly after. Similarly to ‘Love Me Or Hate Me’ it too was featured on The O.C. and CSI: NY and in the video game Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition.

This song is just good, fun grime and doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s what makes it great!

Lady Sovereign – ‘Random’

What do you think of Lady Sovereign? Were you a fan? Do you miss her?! I do…come back SOV! What would your #ThrowbackThursday choice be? Share it with us in a comment or on social media.
