Muzik Speaks Loves Atlantic Records - SmallerLast week (18th October 2018), Canterbury rockers, Broken Hands, announced that they had signed to Atlantic Records by releasing a pair of brand new singles, ‘Split In Two’ and ‘Friends House’; their first new music since the release of the 2015 full-length debut, Turbulence.

The five-piece band, which consists of Dale Norton (vocals), his brother, Callum Norton (drums), Jamie Darby (lead guitar), Thomas Ford (bass) and David Hardstone (rhythm guitar & keys), have been busy working with Tom Dalgety (notable for mixing a lot of Royal Blood‘s work) on these two tracks – his style is particularly reflected on ‘Split In Two’, which has an amalgamation of both psychedelic and grunge vibes.

The band’s style is further reinforced by the fact they have played shows with the likes of Rolling StonesBlack Sabbath, Blur and Deaf Havana.

The music video for ‘Split In Two’ sees the band performing amongst a glowing green light with a Matrix-style code backdrop.

No details about their forthcoming album have emerged, as yet, but we’ll keep you updated.

#MellowMonday: Lana Del Rey – ‘Love’

Lana Del Rey has just released her first new music since 2015’s Honeymoon album and people are going crazy for her new single, ‘Love’. I’ve actually not been a huge fan of Lana, until now – this track is just too good to ignore!

It’s an incredible song with its epic soundtrack feel; subtle sweeping strings, pounding drums, a beautiful melody and of course Lana’s haunting vocals. It’s a truly brilliant piece of art.

The artwork for the single resembles an old movie poster; it’s the perfect depiction for the song. The music video has emerged and is a masterpiece in it’s own right; check it out below!

#MellowMonday: Christine And The Queens – ‘Tilted’

Although Christine and the Queens released ‘Tilted’ back in the UK in 2015, it seems like the perfect #MellowMonday track to kick off this week!

The song has had a few different incarnations but ‘Tilted’ is the one which found success in the UK, reaching the Top 20 of the UK charts when it was released.

The way Héloïse Letissier (Christine and the Queens) combines music, art, performance and videography is stunning – the translation of the song to the performance in the music video is astounding; a real masterpiece to behold.

Muzik Speaks: 2015 in Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for our blog – it’s got some interesting information about our statistics for the year – take a look, if you’re interested.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,500 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 58 trips to carry that many people.

#Christmas #MellowMonday: Colbie Caillat – ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’

It’s Christmas!!!

…well, nearly!

This week, as it’s Christmas, I’m going to post a themed track, as usual, but am adding to a special Christmas playlist, each day.

Every day this week, you can expect 5 new tracks to be added to the playlist (based on the theme that day), which means by Christmas Day, you should have a special 25-track Christmas playlist! Please either subscribe to the YouTube channel or follow the playlist on Spotify 🙂

Colbie Caillat – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Released back in 2012, Colbie Caillat released a Christmas album called ‘Christmas In The Sand’. The album contained a mixture of cover songs and some originals too.

The idea of the album was to be less traditional than your usual Christmas songs, by making it more “surf-friendly” – it is much more acoustic and cheerful and the jingle bells have been turned right down!

I’ve chosen to feature her cover of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ which was originally performed by Judy Garland in 1944 and then covered, more famously, by Frank Sinatra in 1957. It’s quite a lovely song though!

Also added to the playlist today:

  • Michael Bublé – It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
  • Chris Rea – Driving Home For Christmas
  • Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga – Winter Wonderland
  • Coldplay – Christmas Lights

#MuzikSpeaks: An Interview with Platnum

Aaron Evers and Michelle McKenna from Platnum took the time to do a Skype interview with us, and they were awesome!

We’re back with another interview, and this time, it’s with Platnum.

Having taken a short break from music, they’re back, as a duo, and getting ready to tour in January 2016.

The pair (who rose to fame in 2008, with their H “Two” O collaboration, ‘What’s It Gonna Be’) have been taking some time to work on new music. Their first garage/bassline anthem became huge and having spoken to them, they inform me that their new music will see a return to their musical roots, while still remaining commercial.

I had such an amazing time interviewing Aaron and Michelle – they were a real laugh and so nice!

Continuing from the tradition set in our previous ZebraheadFrankmusik and Life Of Dillon interviews, we asked Platnum to take part in a game of ‘Would You Rather…?’ – however, Aaron decided they should throw themselves straight into the WTF?! (#WYRwtf) level…brave!

I really hope that you will enjoy watching this interview as I had a great time talking to them and please, please go ahead and share this link and video on your social media accounts!
