#TunefulTuesday: Pale Waves – ‘Easy’

Pale Waves are an English, indie rock/pop band from Manchester, who formed in 2014. To date, the quartet have released an EP and their debut album, My Mind Makes Noises (through Dirty Hit) and are currently gearing up to release their sophomore album, Who Am I?

‘Easy’ is a melodic, dream pop anthem taken from their upcoming second album, and is a track that is just crying out to be sung along to.

It’s actually got a certain, 2002 Avril Lavigne feel to it, somewhere along the lines of Complicated‘Anything But Ordinary’ and ‘Things I’ll Never Say’ but with a more modern twist to it.

The music video is pretty cool too with its juxtaposed imagery, seeing the band rocking goth-like appearances, whilst performing amongst twinkling lights – it’s beautifully shot and makes for a really interesting watch. Check it out below.

If this song and the others they have released so far from their second record are anything to go by, then it promises to be a very exciting release!

#FeelGoodFriday: Rina Sawayama – ‘LUCID’

Rina Sawayama is a Japanese-British singer-songwriter and model based in London who released her first EP in 2017. After signing to Dirty Hit, she released her debut studio album, Sawayama, in 2020.

Produced by hitmaker, BloodPop, ‘LUCID’ is a synthpop anthem that just begs to be danced to and sees Sawayama take on a different, more commercial sound to the rest of her debut album.

The song is fairly mainstream with its dance-pop beat and is certain to propel her more into the limelight as a pop songstress. Comparisons have been made to the likes of Lady Gaga and her 2020 album, Chromatica (which was also produced by BloodPop).

The music video is fun too, featuring Sawayama performing in an other-worldly environment alongside a reflection of herself, with a short behind-the-scenes look at the end of it.

#MellowMonday: No Rome – ‘Do It Again’

No Rome is a recent, electro, synth-pop signing for London-based label, Dirty Hit (also home to the likes of The 1975 and The Japanese House). In fact, his upcoming EP, RIP Indo Hisashi, was produced by none other than The 1975‘s Matty Healy and George Daniel.

The first single to be taken from the upcoming release, is Do It Again. It certainly has a very similar vibe to that of his label mates, with its echoing vocals, atmospheric and cascading synths and richly textured production.

There’s no doubt that with this team behind him, No Rome will be about to embark on an exciting new phase in his musical career and I expect to be hearing a lot more from him in the months to come.

No music video has been released as yet, but I’m sure when one emerges, it’ll be artistic and mesmerising, if some of his photo shoot pictures are anything to go by.

What are your thoughts of this up and comer? Do you like his similar vibes to The 1975? Have you got a #MellowMonday track to recommend us? Please leave your thoughts or song suggestions in a comment or via social media.

Benjamin Francis Leftwich is an English singer-songwriter from York. He released his debut album in 2011 but he’s now preparing to release the foll0w-up, on 19th August, called After The Rain.

His clear, folk influences and similarities to Damien Rice and José González make it the perfect song for #MellowMonday. ‘Summer’ is a fantastic song – the almost whispered vocals sit beautifully amongst the high-pitched and dancing guitar melodies. It’s evocative of a warm summer evening in a vast field in the English countryside.

It’s pretty clear by now that I love The 1975! They’re just immensely cool and since the announcement of their second album, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It, they have been releasing a whole string of hit singles.

‘The Sound’ is the most recent release from the album and damn it’s awesome! It’s got everything you could want in a #FeelGoodFriday song; electro-pop synths and funky guitar hooks – just about everything that makes the trademark The 1975 sound.

The music video is incredible too – it pokes fun at the industry and they’ve done rather special and unique with it! They’ve taken just about every bad review they’ve ever received and put them, as quotes, into the video, making the best of them; showing they just don’t give a damn and that they’ve clearly come out on top!

They are The 1975 – f**king ace!

What do you think of the The 1975? Do you love this newest single? Have you got a #FeelGoodFriday track for us? Please comment below and share the link to this post on your social media accounts.

Much love and happy weekend ahead!
