#WildCardWednesday: Julie Bergan – ‘Kiss Somebody’ (with Seeb)

Julie Bergan rose to recognition by releasing a series of covers on YouTube, at the age of 16, eventually signing a deal with Warner Music Norway in 2013.

This particular song (‘Kiss Somebody’) was actually released a year ago, in January 2020 and saw Bergan team up with Norwegian production duo, Seeb.

The song itself uses vocal distortions to make part of the backing beat (with the lyrics, “Make out with her, Make out with him”) alongside other traditional EDM-style components. It’s a banging anthem that begs to be danced to.

The video is fun too and features various couples kissing (including a gay couple), interspersed with shots of Bergan performing with a group of back-up dancers as well as by herself.

This synthpop meets EDM banger is the perfect track for #WildCardWednesday, as Bergan has yet to break into the UK market but I’m sure it won’t be long before she becomes more of a household name over here, if this track is anything to go by.

What are your thoughts of this synthpop banger? Do you have a #WildCardWednesday track to recommend us? Please leave your thoughts or song suggestions in a comment or via social media.

#MellowMonday: Zoology – ‘Maroon’

Zoology are a fantastic duo who manage to combine vintage R&B vocals with slick summery beats, with their latest single, ‘Maroon’.

“Maroon was actually the first song we wrote in the same room,” says Zoology’s Emily, “The process flowed so easily being together as opposed to bouncing ideas across the other side of the world.”

‘Maroon’ is a song that manages to take you on a journey, through its brilliantly subtle production, silky vocals and superbly catchy melodies. This is a remarkably rare track as it manages to be much more memorable than your average club banger and it really stands out in a world currently saturated with tropical house.

No official video exists at the moment, but we’ll keep you updated on this.

Zoology was born against the odds. Chance acquaintances Emily and Beau started the project in different countries and released first track, ‘Escape’, in 2016, without having ever met; they are an act like no other right now!

An incredibly hot track right now!

Having recently seen Aquilo perform in Brighton recently (check out our review), I was captivated by one of their most recent singles, ‘You Won’t Know Where You Stand’.

The Lancashire duo (consisting of Ben Fletcher and Tom Higham) have been working tirelessly on writing, recording and touring, all the while, perfecting their blend of electronica and pop songwriting.

This particular track has a dreamy quality to it; perfect for a #MellowMonday song. No official video has been released yet, but as always, we’ll keep you updated.

Galantis – ‘No Money’

Swedish electronic duo, Galantis dropped their latest song, ‘No Money’ recently and it’s the first new material since their album Pharmacy was released in 2015.

The song is co-produced by Digital Farm Animals and sees the duo’s continued use of almost digital female-sounding vocals which work so well with their sound.

I have a feeling that this song could be just as big as ‘Peanut Butter Jelly’…here’s to hoping!

Snakehips – ‘Falling’ featuring Malika

Snakehips have had success with their recent single, All My Friends and have just put out a three-track EP called Money On Me.

One of the tracks from the EP is ‘Falling’ featuring Malika and it’s incredible! The use of brass instruments and intricate drums makes for a hypnotic and brilliant sound. The vocals ascend to awesome heights too; it’s a real journey just to hear this song!

If Snakehips can keep releasing interesting and diverse music like this, I think they’ll have a long, bright future ahead of them!

MIAMIGO are a dark, mature indie-pop duo from our very own hometown, Brighton!

‘PotLuck’ confidently conjures up images of sun-kissed urban-bordered beaches in an American city, with its intriguing blend of 80’s sounding, funky guitars and slightly off-key synths. It’s already got me anticipating the summer, with this uplifting sound. I definitely want to hear more from these guys!

The pair are gathering quite a bit of support right now (and quite rightly so!) and have just announced they are going to be the support on the Hurts European tour. Good luck with the tour lads and keep pumping out the awesome tunes!

What do you think of MIAMIGO’s sound? Have you heard their other songs? Please show your support for them and share this link on your social media accounts with the #WildCardWednesday hash tag.

#Two4Tunesday: Years & Years – ‘Shine’ & Blonde – ‘All Cried Out’ featuring Alex Newel

Today we’re introducing a new track from Years & Years (see our previous post about their song, King) and dance duo, Blonde.

Years & Years Banner

Years & Years appear to be going from strength-to-strength at the moment. The electronica threesome from London, scored a UK Number 1 earlier in the year with their single King and are now gearing up to release their follow-up single, ‘Shine’, on 5th July 2015 ahead of their debut album ‘Communion‘.

I am expecting big things from their debut release and truly think this band are set to conquer the UK over the next few months…bring it on!

‘Shine’ is due for release on 5th July 2015 and can be pre-ordered on iTunes now – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/shine-single/id991385169

Years & Years – ‘Shine’

Blonde Banner

Our second song today is by Blonde; this deep house production duo is made up of Jacob Manson and Adam Englefield and they’re taking the charts by storm.

In 2014, the pair released their single, ‘I Loved You’ featuring Melissa Steel and have since released this brand new track (‘All Cried Out’) featuring ex-Glee actor Alex Newell (who recently lent his vocals to Clean Bandit’s Stronger).

This tune reeks of summer and should be enjoyed on full volume with the car windows down on a journey to the beach! ENJOY! 🙂

‘All Cried Out’ can be downloaded from iTunes this very moment – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/all-cried-out-feat.-alex-newell/id965352869?i=965352870

Blonde – ‘All Cried Out’ featuring Alex Newell

And so concludes another #Two4Tunesday offering! I hope you’re enjoying these tunes as much as me and please share away merrily on your social media accounts.
