Zedd‘s latest track, ‘The Middle’ features the American electronic music duo, Grey (aka brothers Kyle Trewarth and Michael Trewartha) and vocals by American country singer, Maren Morris.
This track may well have come out at the start of 2018 but 10 weeks later, it’s still at Number 10 in the UK charts, following the success of 2017’s ‘Stay‘ with Alessia Cara, however this track performed even better than that.
It’s a fun, uplifting track which has a very similar feel to ‘Stay’ with it’s combination of raw, powerful and digitised/vocoder vocals, atop a blend of 90s pop sensibilities and modern EDM vibes, making for a very distinctive sound.
The video is great fun too, with it’s stunning set and extravagant use of visual lighting. All-round this is just a fantastic piece of modern pop that will undoubtedly get stuck in everyone’s head; a true favourite of mine right now!
The second track this week is Lil Dicky‘s Number 1, smash hit, ‘Freaky Friday’, featuring guest vocals from Chris Brown.
The track itself is a combination of hip hop, pop and comedy (think similar to The Lonely Island), centring on the film(s) of the same name and continually references Chris Brown himself, throughout.
Whilst this track is intentionally comedic and works hilariously with its accompanying music video, there’s no doubt about it that this is one heck of a catchy tune too; it’s easy to see how it’s managed to top the UK Charts!
The music video itself parodies the 2003 film Freaky Friday (starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan) and features cameos from Jimmy Tatro, Ed Sheeran, DJ Khaled and Kendall Jenner. It’s a must-watch video but also, I defy anyone not to end up singing along to this earworm of a track!
Vance Joy is an Australian, folk singer-songwriter who, having released his debut solo album, Dream Your Life Away, back in 2014, is now back with his sophomore offering, Nation Of Two; a powerful tale of a couple’s love.
Vance Joy has crafted his own unique brand of folk-pop, using instruments such as the ukulele and banjo to make his style stand out and Nation Of Two continues with this tradition; this time telling a story throughout the 13-track collection.
Vance himself explains that “Nation of Two describes a perfectly self-contained couple; their world beginning and ending at the bed they share, the car they ride in, or any other place where they’re together… the idea that their love for each other gives them their bearings; a point of reference that makes sense of life.” (Reference)
The album, as a collection, tells the tale of two lovers across a beautiful array of styles.
The album starts out very strong with stand-out songs, including leading single, ‘Lay It On Me’ (with it’s funky brass sections), plus ‘We’re Going Home’ and the fun-filled, ‘Saturday Sun’. Other great songs include the punchy, almost alt-rock-like ‘One Of These Days’ and the beautiful banjo ballad, ‘Where We Start’. The album, as a collection, tells the tale of two lovers across a beautiful array of styles, however a couple of the tracks, I felt, could easily be skipped, but as a whole body, it is great.
This is definitely going to sit well with fans of Mumford & Sons, Ray LaMontagne, Seth Lakeman and possibly even Ed Sheeran – it’s folky, pop-tinted and got a real honest feel to it. It’s well produced but not over-produced and stands out as a quality, folk-pop album.
The first half of the album is strong and I certainly think this album will bring new success to Vance Joy, but the second half is lacking in a couple of places. This is however, as a whole, a wonderful way to tell the story of a couple’s love and life together and is well worth a listen.
We hope you’ve enjoyed our latest review of Vance Joy’s second album, but what are your thoughts? Are you a huge fan or do you think it will go straight in to the bargain bin? What would you rate it? Please leave your thoughts in a comment or share your feelings with us, via our social media accounts.

Now I’ve never been a huge fan of Ed Sheeran, but even I can’t deny his triumphant return and ‘Castle On The Hill’ is the first song of his that’s made me take note of him.
The sheer passion in his voice in the chorus of this song is gripping and really captivated my attention. Although this song is currently Number 2 in the UK and his other single (‘Shape Of You’) is at Number 1, I think this one is quietly addictive and could well make it to the Number 1 spot in time.
No official video has been released but for now, check out the lyric video below.
Julia Michaels has so far been known for writing huge hits such as Hailee Steinfeld‘s ‘Love Myself‘, Justin Bieber‘s ‘Sorry‘, Britney Spears‘ ‘Slumber Party‘, and even the track ‘Dive’ from Ed Sheeran‘s upcoming album.
However, Julia Michaels has now taken the first steps into the world as an artist in her own right and she’s making huge waves already. Her debut single, ‘Issues’ is a real hard-hitter with some fantastic vocal melodies and lyrical acrobatics, just the way the lyrics play around the instrumentation is brilliant; it really is a work of songwriting art. She stated, “It was the first time I’d written a song that sounded so much like myself that I couldn’t picture anyone else singing it.”
Similarly to ‘Castle On The Hill’, no video has emerged yet but in the meantime, check out the audio video below.
Driftwood are a rising pop trio from the UK and they just released their debut single, ‘This City’. The band have been compared to the likes of The 1975, Ed Sheeran and Lawson.
The song is energetic yet somehow still perfect for #MellowMonday and has an anthemic quality to it with soulful vocals and beautifully intricate guitar sounds.
The guys are performing shows this winter and into early next year and you can check out a whole bunch of original songs and covers online too!
What are your thoughts of this trio? Hoping to hear more from them? Have you got anything similar you can share with us? Please post a comment below or chat to us via our social media accounts.

Piers Agget, Amir Amor, Kesi Dryden and Leon Rolle (aka Rudimental) have been going from strength to strength over the past couple of years, working with the likes of Foxes, Ella Eyre and Emeli Sandé.
Most recently, however, they have teamed up with Ed Sheeran to release this banger of a tune, ‘Lay It All On Me’, which is the fifth single taken from their second album ‘We The Generation’.
The group have managed to fuse Drum & Bass with a Pop edge alongside Ed Sheeran‘s vocals and songwriter writing style.

Hearts & Colors are a YouTube duo who have a large online following.
This song, ‘Fireflies‘, is a cover of Owl City‘s biggest hit and they’ve done it justice and made it even more beautiful…if that’s possible?! Their harmonies hit you with “the feels”! It’s superb!
The duo consists of Philip Tillström & Nicolai Kjellberg and they’ve also covered songs by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber. Keep an eye out for these guys…I think they’ve got something special!
Today we’re bringing you a brand new track from Sigma featuring Ella Henderson (see our previous post about the remix of their previous song, ‘Changing‘,featuring Paloma Faith) and a great summery song from Conrad Sewell.
Sigmaare going from one featured celebrity vocalist to the next, creating their own path of smash hits and leaving some massive songs in their wake!
The duo consists of Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie, who have so far worked with the likes of Labrinth, Paloma Faith and DJ Fresh and this next release of theirs features vocals of the incredibly talented, ex-X Factor contestant, Ella Henderson.
‘Glitterball’ is such a big-production song with its almost movie-like strings alongside chaotic drum and bass beats, a gospel choir and Ella Henderson‘s fantastic vocals. I’m predicting that it’s going to be a huge hit for them; a new landmark song for Sigma.
Conrad Sewell recently gained recognition for lending his vocals to Kygo‘s hit song, ‘Firestone’ but he’s also released his own solo song, ‘Hold Me Up’.
The Australian-born singer moved to America to work on his solo project and has worked on a bunch of hit-makers, penning this one with Brian Lee (who’s worked with Lady Gaga and Icona Pop), The Euroz and Lewis Bell. He’s also embarking on the Ed Sheeran tour around Australia.
At the moment, ‘Hold Me Up’ has a tentative release date of 24th July 2015, however no pre-order has been made available yet. When it was released in Australia, the song peaked at 39 in the charts, however I reckon it’ll score a Top 20 in the UK charts, with the right promotion. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this song.
Conrad Sewell – ‘Hold Me Up’
And there ends this week’s #Two4Tunesday! Enjoy them as these are two really great songs! Please don’t forget to share away to your heart’s content across your social media accounts.
