#ThrowbackThursday: Lovestation – ‘Teardrops’

2018 sees the 20th anniversary, since the release of Lovestation‘s ‘Teardrops’, which was in fact a cover of a song from Womack & Womack‘s fourth studio album, Conscience (originally released in 1988).

Unlike the original version, Lovestation‘s was composed in an early UK Garage style and went on to become the group’s biggest hit, reaching Number 14 in the UK Charts.

There have also been several other versions since this by  German pop quartet No Angels in 2007, Australian singer Kate Alexa in 2008 and then in 2009, UK pop girl group, Sugababes, recorded a version for the special Island Records album, Island Life – 50 Years of Island Records.

A quirky, black and white video was also released alongside this single, which can be seen below.

This is a fantastic track that certainly conjures up childhood memories for me and whilst it’s now 20 years old, I think there’s still something edgy and almost current about it.

What are your thoughts of this epic 1998 Garage tune? Got a #ThrowbackThursday track for us? Please leave your thoughts or share a song suggestion in a comment or via social media.

Craig David has had some amazing songs in his time! Since we featured his latest track One More Time earlier this week, it seemed like a good idea to revisit some of his older songs for #ThrowbackThursday, coz man has the guy had some hits!

‘7 Days’ was released 16 years ago, back in 2000, and was taken from his debut album ‘Born To Do It’ and it reached Number 1 in the UK charts…that’s because it’s awesome! A true R&B song which shows off David’ vocal abilities well, this song was destined for success, with a modest video too!

Craig David – ‘7 Days’

It was then in 2002 that Craig David released the first single from his follow-up album, ‘What’s Your Flava?’ Many people might have found the lyrics a little cringy; comparing girls to ice cream flavours, but the song is catchy as hell!

It went on to reach Number 8 in the UK charts and saw him add a touch of dance to his R&B sound.

Then in 2003, Craig David released his second song from the album Slicker Than Your Average, called ‘Hidden Agenda’.

Although this song reached Number 10 in the UK charts (not as good as his previous releases), I have chosen to feature this as the third song, because I feel it was a bit of a hidden gem. It’s much less obviously catchy than his other singles but is one of my favourite songs of his.

Whilst the song still remains R&B at heart, its use of guitar is calming and unique and really captivates me every time I hear it. It also saw Craig David team up with previous collaborator and Artful Dodger producer, Mark Hill.

It was then in 2010 that Craig David appeared to take a break from music, but thankfully, he’s back and 2016 looks set to be an awesome year for him!

#Two4Tunesday: KStewart – ‘Be Without You’ & Sigala – ‘Say You Do’ featuring Imani & DJ Fresh

KStewart – ‘Be Without You’

KStewart has a voice to be reckoned with; her vocals can be saintly sweet or devilishly dynamic and that’s a great thing! Her musical style has some 90s vibes to it, but she’s throwing in house and garage tones to shake things up a bit!

This latest song is helping to cement just how fantastic she is and makes me even more excited to hear an album from her.

The video is a collaboration between her and New Look – I think it’s a fantastic direction for both parties – fashion promoting music and music promoting fashion – it’s a match made in heaven! You’ll also notice MNEK making an appearance in the video too. It just looks like a whole load of fun, but where KStewart is concerned, I would expect nothing less!

Show your support for this song and please download it – great tune!

Sigala – ‘Say You Do’ featuring Imani & DJ Fresh

I’ve featured Sigala on Muzik Speaks, twice already, but I just can’t get enough of his summery dance vibes!

With Easy Loveand Sweet Lovin’already grabbing people’s attention, there is no doubt in my mind that ‘Say You Do’ with get a great reception on release; not only has he got Imani on the vocals, adding that sweet sound into the mix, but none other than DJ Fresh has dived in to help on the production. It’s one MONSTER of a song; very reminiscent, vocally, of ‘Hot Right Now’ (featured on our Summer Songs 2015 Playlist), the smash hit for DJ Fresh.

The video is typically Caribbean which goes perfectly with the vibe of the song!

I just love this tune – I really hope Sigala will release an album of hits, just like this; it’s upbeat, fun and smile-inducing!

‘Say You Do’ is not released until 18/03/16, but you can pre-order it on iTunes now! – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/say-you-do-feat.-imani-dj/id1077265863

#MuzikSpeaks: An Interview with Platnum

Aaron Evers and Michelle McKenna from Platnum took the time to do a Skype interview with us, and they were awesome!

We’re back with another interview, and this time, it’s with Platnum.

Having taken a short break from music, they’re back, as a duo, and getting ready to tour in January 2016.

The pair (who rose to fame in 2008, with their H “Two” O collaboration, ‘What’s It Gonna Be’) have been taking some time to work on new music. Their first garage/bassline anthem became huge and having spoken to them, they inform me that their new music will see a return to their musical roots, while still remaining commercial.

I had such an amazing time interviewing Aaron and Michelle – they were a real laugh and so nice!

Continuing from the tradition set in our previous ZebraheadFrankmusik and Life Of Dillon interviews, we asked Platnum to take part in a game of ‘Would You Rather…?’ – however, Aaron decided they should throw themselves straight into the WTF?! (#WYRwtf) level…brave!

I really hope that you will enjoy watching this interview as I had a great time talking to them and please, please go ahead and share this link and video on your social media accounts!

Hailee Steinfield – ‘Love Myself’

Hailee Steinfield is know for being an actress, model and now singer; she has her fingers in many pies…so to speak!

Most notably, she appeared in Pitch Perfect 2 during which she covered ‘Flashlight’ and has since been signed by Republic Records.

Her debut EP, ‘HAIZ’, was released in November 2015 and this song, ‘Love Myself’, preceded it, back in August this year, however it failed to reach the Top 40 here in the UK.

I have posted this track today as I think it’s a bit different, and she came to my attention as her EP was recently released. I checked it out, and this song stood out for me, so enjoy!

Craig David x Big Narstie – ‘When The Bassline Drops’

Craig David (aka Craaaaaig David) is back!

Teaming up with Big Narstie after a collaboration on a Radio 1Xtra, during which Craig David remixed ‘Fill Me In‘ over the ‘Where Are Ü Now‘ beat, the pair have now entered the studio to record this latest track, ‘When The Bassline Drops’.

It’s the first new music release from Craig David in years and sees the guy return to his garage origins; his ‘Rewind‘ days!

It’s an epic new song and should definitely be appreciated for a triumphant return to the garage scene!

#ThrowbackThursday: True Steppers – ‘Out Of Your Mind’ featuring Dane Bowers & Victoria Beckham

True Steppers Banner

True Steppers were a UK Garage duo from 1999-2000, consisting of Jonny Lisners and Andy Lysandrou. The pair had success in April 2000 with the release of Buggin’, a collaboration with Dane Bowers which reached Number 6 in the charts.

It was then in August 2000, they once again teamed up with Bowers but were also joined by Victoria Beckham, for the massive tune which was ‘Out Of Your Mind’. The song was their biggest hit, reaching Number 2 in the charts, but their follow-up singles and album failed to chart highly.

Do you remember this song? What were you upto in your life when it was released? Got any similar Garage tracks to share with us? Comment below.

#ThrowbackThursday: Artful Dodger – ‘Re-Rewind’ featuring Craig David

artful-dodger-bakcground

Who doesn’t know this song?! It was such a big song back when it was released in 1999, scoring a Number 2 in the UK charts!

The song not only helped bring Garage music to the mainstream, but it launched Craig David‘s career and even prompted Leigh Francis (aka Keith Lemon) to create his own sketch show, Bo’ Selecta!

The song was one of the very first to be released by Relentless Records and it went on to establish them as pioneers within the UK music industry, going on to release songs by the likes of Joss Stone, So Solid Crew, KT Tunstall, Roll Deep and Chris Malinchak.

The duo originally consisted of Pete Devereux and Mark Hill, however both have since left, leaving Hill’s collaborators MC Alistair and DJ Dave Low to carry on the Artful Dodger name.

Did you used to love this track? Are you still loving this song? Please share online and spread the love.
