#FeelGoodFriday: Angels & Airwaves – ‘The Adventure (Acoustic)’

It’s been just over 10 years since Angels & Airwaves released their debut album, We Don’t Need To Whisper and in celebration of that, Tom DeLonge has re-recorded acoustic versions of 4 fan favourites, on a special We Don’t Need To Whisper Acoustic EP (released on iTunes today).

Their debut single, ‘The Adventure’, was released in 2006 and reached Number 20 in the UK charts, kicking off a fantastic side-project for Tom DeLonge and co. Since then, the band has had a few member changes but that hasn’t stopped them branching out from music into feature films, graphic novels, novels and more.

This track is a refreshing take on the original and is just as beautifully captivating and uplifting, just in a different way. It may have been stripped back but it hasn’t lost any of the passion or essence that made the original so exceptional. My only flaw with the EP is that I would have loved the whole album to have been re-recorded in this style.

No music video has been made as yet but the lyric video serves as a brilliant companion piece with a series of behind the scenes footage from the era of the debut album’s inception and recording.

What are your thoughts on this acoustic version of ‘The Adventure’? Have you got a #FeelGoodFriday track for us? Please leave your thoughts or song suggestions in a comment or via social media.

Having recently released his latest album Weightless back in December 2016 and a brand new tune, ‘Boy & Bear’, I had the privilege of talking to the fantastically talented, Nick Bertke (aka Pogo).

During our interview, Nick chatted about what it’s been like to work with Disney, what he’s got in store for releasing music this year, where he takes inspirations from and who he’d like to play him in a biographic film. It’s all in the interview video below!

I want to say a massive thanks to Nick himself for taking the time to make this interview happen! Such a genuine, lovely guy 😀

I really hope you enjoy watching this interview! Please show your support for the band by sharing the link to this post on all of your social media accounts!

#Review: Leah McFall – INK (Mini Album)

Leah McFall first came to the public attention as a runner-up on the second series of The Voice UK, back in 2013. Since then, she’s been busy crafting her sound and has finally released her first mini album, INK, which she will be touring throughout the UK, this month.

Leah McFall - INK

The title track, Ink’, is also the opening track of the mini album; it’s a subtle, laid-back song with haunting melodies and incredibly well-placed backing vocals that add a interesting depth to it. The song (and several others on the record) has strong resemblances with NAO.

‘Happy Human’ is an uplifting, full-on track with a positive message. ‘Bottle It’ stands out for it’s edgy sound – similar to the current tropical house trend but with her own, unique interpretation. ‘Colours At A Funeral’ is a raw, emotional song that has a deep soulfulness to it and is followed by another stand-out song, ‘Language’; the latter is a great song, probably the most poppy song (and my personal favourite) on the record. It’s a quite a blend of late 80s and 90s pop sounds and has that feel-good factor about it.

The closing track is Leah‘s first, independently released single, ‘Wolf Den’, which boasts an upbeat, quirky sound and really showcases just what she can do with her voice; whistle notes and all. It’s the perfect end to the whole mini album.

The production throughout, is what I’d describe as subtle yet intricate – it doesn’t scream out pop and it can’t easily be pigeon-holed, but that’s what makes it such a fantastic release. It’s very dreamy with seemingly simplistic production (although that’s most definitely not the case); it’s been impeccably well produced and each song makes an impact in a different way. Leah‘s powerful vocals and delicate ad libs have been layered beautifully and weave stunningly around the instrumentation, creating euphoric highs and emotionally-driven lows throughout the entirety of the record. It is an honest offering and almost exposes a vulnerability about the singer. This is undoubtably something fans will appreciate; an insight into her world.

In summary, this mini album has a lot to offer and is a very strong independent release that’s currently charting highly on the UK iTunes charts. Although she may not have won The Voice UK, her talent definitely outshines any other contestant to have graced the show previously or since. This release is a symbol of what fan power, self-belief and determination can achieve and her every success is deserved! Let’s hope a full-length album follows, and soon!

Tre Coast has recently come to my attention with this incredible, tropical house-style anthem!

The song is very current but has something unique about it, in the form of Tre’s voice. For those who haven’t heard of him yet, I’m sure you soon will – he’s picking up an impressive online following and whilst he’s previously been known for his rapping, this song sees him taking on a more soulful, singing vibe.

No official video has emerged for this track yet and it’s not on Spotify or iTunes, but I couldn’t let this song go unshared! Please check out the SoundCloud player below and please share the link to this post! We’ll keep you updated if any video is released too!

#WildCardWednesday: Mi’das – ‘Too Little Too Late’

3085975-3 copy copy

Mi’das (aka Mike Davies) has worked hard to create his own unique blend of soul and pop, which he has combined with his trademark vocals and guitar playing.

His sound has been described as “timeless, but discernably of its time” and he has worked his way from his hometown in Brighton, around the UK and across the pond, to the USA by busking on the street as well as sharing stages with the likes of Jessie J, Rita OraLabrinth and Jamie Cullum.

He has also been featured as an iTunes ‘Ahead of the Curve’ artist in the UK and US, earlier this year.

Mi’das recently released a new music video for the second single taken from his EP (‘Stronger’) called ‘Too Little Too Late’. Mi’das describes the song as being afraid of getting old and regretting not following your dreams and this message is clear throughout the song.

The soulful gospel vibe of the song brings it a uniquely timeless feel and makes for an interesting, intriguing sound. I am genuinely excited to hear what else Mi’das has to offer in the future!

How do you feel about this particular track? Do you think this timeless song has a place in today’s chart? Please show your support and share this link across your social media accounts.

#MellowMonday: Grimes x Bleachers – Entropy

Grimes Banner

So, this is the second post I’ve written about Grimes (previously I wrote about her track, ‘Genesis‘) but this song struck me recently when browsing new tracks on Spotify.

It’s a calming track with quite a unique, happy, easy listening vibe about it and makes for a perfect start to the week!

This song is also a collaboration with Bleachers (aka Jack Antonoff of Steel Train and Fun.) and was recorded for the HBO television show, Girls.

This song can be bought on iTunes now – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/entropy/id976391124?i=976391132

#MuzikSpeaks: An Interview with Ali Tabatabaee from Zebrahead

I’m so stoked to bring you guys not only our first ever interview, but an interview with the incredible rapper, Ali Tabatabaee from US rapcore/pop punk/punk rock/alternative rock (let’s just put them under ‘awesome‘) band, Zebrahead! Ali was such a legend and truly is a top bloke!

I’ve tried to make it a bit different to usual interviews and included a game of ‘Would You Rather…?’ with 3 different levels; Tame, Awkward and WTF?!

Please share this video and I really hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did filming it!
