Busted – ‘On What You’re On’

Man are we pleased that Busted are back together! Despite years of stating he’d never rejoin Busted, Charlie and the boys have reunited and their new sound is SICK!

This latest track, ‘On What You’re On, is funky as hell, with some sort of Daft Punk vibes going on! I’m all over this – loving the new sound and the fact that they have moved with the times, rather than stuck to what they used to do, within the pop rock genre – it’s just awesome!

Surely a tune like this is set to hit Number 1?! Good luck with the comeback boys!

Will Joseph Cook – ‘Sweet Dreamer’

Will Joseph Cook is a great, British singer/songwriter who is making waves on the scene.

Having seen him support Walking On Cars earlier this year, he has been on my radar ever since and this song is rather infectious. Although it’s still deep-rooted in indie songwriting, there’s something beautifully pop about it.

He’s been hard at work gathering a loyal following and I’m sure when his debut album drops, things are going to blow up for him!

Make sure you check out ‘Sweet Dreamer’, it’s ace!

Sia – ‘The Greatest’ featuring Kendrick Lamar

Sia is back again with another incredible new track, just months after her album, This Is Acting and it’s not taken from it. Could this be another new album in the making?

The song is passionate, powerful and pure pop…it’s everything a contemporary pop song should be and more!

The addition of Kendrick Lamar‘s verse, further adds to the dynamics to the song and of course, as we’ve come to expect, the music video is a masterpiece; a marvel to behold!

Busted – ‘Coming Home’

After 12 years away from the band, Busted are finally back with their new single, ‘Coming Home’, taken from their upcoming, third album, Night Driver.

The song sounds a lot more mature than their previous, pop rock antics, with its synth-heavy and subtle tones, however it still has the iconic vocals and feel to the band. I’m intrigued to hear what the rest of their new album will hold…will there be some of their fun-filled, guitar-heavy, power-pop anthems? Or will they have carried the maturity of this song, throughout the album?

Either way, we sure are excited to have the band back together and kickin’ it like they never went away! Welcome back guys!

After departing from his band, Hollywood Ending, Chris Bourne is going solo and gearing up to release a whole host of new music.

The first single of his new material, is ‘MFT80s’ has been really positively received and so Chris is planning on releasing more, very soon.

During our interview, Chris explained that he is focusing on releasing singles, rather than an album, as well as a cover song (which he is shooting the video for this weekend!). He told us how the music he’s been listening to recently, mainly consists of old-school 80s tunes and what his plans are, regarding his tour of the UK.

As with most of our interviews, we played a game of ‘Would You Rather…?’, so make sure you check that out!

I hope you enjoy this interview and please go ahead and show your support by sharing the link on your social media accounts!

Chris Bourne (previously of Hollywood Ending fame and younger brother of James Bourne from Busted) has just released his debut single, ‘MFT80s’.

Taking a leaf out of James’ book, Chris Bourne has adopted a similar, synthpop/pop rock style and created this fantastic song; surefire to become the guilty pleasures of even the most serious of music lovers.

The music video is perfectly matched to the style and sound of the song too, so make sure you check that out below.

What do you think of Chris’ debut single? Have you already heard it? Are you looking forward to hearing more? Please share this post on your social media accounts and don’t forget to recommend your #WildCardWednesday tracks to us too!

#MellowMonday: Charlie Simpson – ‘Walking With The San’

Charlie Simpson has had several incarnations in the music industry, first there was Busted, then Fightstar and finally his solo career.

Most recently, Charlie has released his third solo album, Little Hands. One of the songs taken from the album, is this song, Walking With The San’, which was taken from the television programme, Singing In The Rainforest, which saw Simpson collaborate with the San Bush People.

I love the sounds of the San people used throughout this song as it captures something magical and warm within the song and the video below shows some of that processes – well worth a watch.

It was also announced, after many years of Simpson saying he would never rejoin, that he has agreed to reignite the sensation that were Busted alongside fellow, founding bandmates James Bourne and Matt Willis, who are currently on tour and gearing up for a new album release. Exciting things to come, I’m sure.

Are you a Charlie Simpson fan? Have you already heard this son? Are you excited about the upcoming Busted release? Please share your #MellowMonday song choice with us, either in a comment below or on our social media.

Have a great week!

#Two4Tunesday: TEAM* – ‘I Like It’ & New City Kings – ‘Change’

This week’s Two4Tunesday features two bands which are signed to independent labels, and man they’re awesome!

TEAM* Banner

I discovered the fantastic TEAM* while checking out what one of my favourite bands (Forever The Sickest Kids) was upto these days and discovered that the members were all currently working on side projects; TEAM* being one of them.

TEAM* consists of Caleb Turman and Rico Garcia (Forever The Sickest Kids), Jay Vilardi (The Almost) and Bryan Donahue (formerly of Boys Like Girls). To date, the band have released two EPs, TEAM* EP and Good Morning Bad Day.

This particular song is superb and almost like a crossover of indie, beach-rock and pop. The video is well worth a watch too; it’s quite an inspirational song and video.

TEAM* – ‘I Like It’

New City Kings Banner

As for New City Kings, well they were a very recent discovery, when I saw them support McBusted on their recent tour. NCK have performed at South By Southwest, Bestival and Download Festival and supported acts such as The Cribs, Marilyn Manson, and London Grammar. The band consist of brothers, Mark Kovic (vocalist) and Ben Kovic (guitarist) as well as Ben Nyari (drummer). They hail from Chelmsford, Essex (UK) and although they are a British band, clearly have American influences.

I particularly like this song and felt it was worth sharing this week, as I can see this band going on to big things.

New City Kings – ‘Change’

Happy Two4Tunesday! Which 2 songs will you choose to share?

#EventSpeaks: McBusted @ Brighton Centre, Brighton

I went to see McBusted perform at Brighton Centre on 7th April 2015 and they were phenomenal!

They were supported by American band Symmetry and UK band New City Kings. Symmetry were decent however quite generic emo-pop with a high-pitched vocalist, while New City Kings were more alternative rock with well-crafted songs.

The highlights of the show had to be; Dougie jumping on Matt’s back and playing Matt’s bass while clinging onto him; Danny picking up a huge bra and holding it to his chest saying, “massive”; James riding a bicycle around the stage; the harmonies they performed during an instrumental break in Air Hostess; James’ use of an auto-tune microphone for Riding On My Bike, but afterwards stating “this thing makes singing so easy,” before breaking into some choruses of songs like Cher’s Believe, Usher’s OMG and Eiffel 65’s Blue (Da Ba Dee) and the fact that their stage was massive, working computer game!!! Also their stage presence was fantastic and the chemistry between them made it all the more enjoyable!

The show began with McBusted’s first single, Air Guitar, which started with a superb entrance (see below)!

McBusted – Air

They then performed several Busted and McFly hits before performing a standout track from their debut album (McBusted)What Happened To Your Band? – this song particularly stands out due to their fantastic harmonising at the end of the song.

McBusted – What Happened To Your Band?

Another highlight of the show had to be their hilarious introduction to Busted’s Crashed The Wedding, as they came out like a wedding procession…naturally Matt Willis was marrying Dougie Poynter!

McBusted – Crashed The Wedding

Finally, one of their other, most memorable songs of the evening (and clearly a crowd-pleaser due to the audience’s immense reaction) was Busted hit, Air Hostess.

McBusted – Air Hostess

The complete setlist for McBusted’s Most Excellent Adventure Tour (MEAT) included:

  15. All About You
  16. Star Girl

Encore

  1. 5 Colours In Her Hair
  2. Shine A Light
  3. Year 3000

If you ever get the chance to see McBusted live, take it! They put their utmost energy into the performances and their stage banter and antics is hilarious; they’re highly recommended!

#ThrowbackThursday / #ThrowbackThreesday: Lil’ Chris Special (R.I.P.)

Lil Chris Banner

This week, I have decided to do a Lil’ Chris special for ‘Throwback Thursday’ and have changed it to ‘Throwback Threesday’ as there are 3 of his songs that I’d like to share.

As I’m sure you are aware, Lil’ Chris has been struggling with depression and unfortunately, suddenly, passed away at the end of March 2015, at the young age of 24. However I want to look back at his positive achievements. He first came to public attention back in 2006, when he took part in Channel 4’s Rock School, hosted by Gene Simmons of KISS – he was selected to front the band of the show.

After the show finished, Lil’ Chris went on to sign a record deal with RCA Records and released his first single, ‘Checkin’ It Out’, in September 2006.

Lil’ Chris – Checkin’ It Out

Then, in December 2006, Lil’ Chris went on to release his second single ‘Getting’ Enough??’, as well as his debut album, ‘Lil’ Chris’.

Lil’ Chris – Gettin’ Enough??

Finally, in October 2007, Lil’ Chris released his last single, ‘We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off’ from his second and final album, ‘What’s It All About’. The song was a cover of the Jermaine Stewart R&B/funk classic, released in 1986.

Lil’ Chris – We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off

I know that Lil’ Chris wasn’t necessarily everyone’s favourite singer, but he had some catchy songs, loyal fans and worked very hard. In 2012, he played a part in James Bourne’s musical ‘Looserville: The Musical’, in London’s West End. He also launched his own clothing label MAML in 2014. The most recent thing he was working on, was a comeback summer anthem, Louder with Guy Barnes, which you can hear below.

Lil’ Chris – Louder

I hope, like me, your thoughts will be with his family at this time and that you will remember the brief joy he brought to the pop-rock world and enjoy his hits and cheeky-chappy videos.
