#MellowMonday: Greyson Chance – ‘Holy Feeling’

facebook_logos_PNG19751.png    ios_homescreen_icon.png   app-icon2.png

Greyson Chance is back with a brand new single, ‘Holy Feeling’.

The singer-songwriter first rose to fame when a video of his performance of Lady Gaga‘s ‘Paparazzi’, at a grade school music festival, went viral on YouTube, gaining him over 68 million views.

Now, with a couple of albums under his belt and a whole string of singles, the artist returns with his mellow yet stunningly powerful offering, in the form of ‘Holy Feeling’.

The song has a certain quality of George Ezra about it during the first verse, when Chance’s gravelly vocal kicks in. However, by the chorus, we are treated to an uplifting and strong voice that is begging to be sung along to with full force.

It has an emotive and optimistic vibe to the song that has me reaching to repeat it, time and again.

The video for the song is pretty simplistic yet stylisticly cool too. It was shot on 16mm film and features people displaying a love and passion for each of their specific creative crafts – from a ballerina and a carpenter to a photographer and a tattoo artist – none of whom are actors. Interestingly, it was shot in the same location as that of his single, ‘shut up’. Check it out below.

#FeelGoodFriday: Rina Sawayama – ‘LUCID’

facebook_logos_PNG19751.png    ios_homescreen_icon.png   app-icon2.png

Rina Sawayama is a Japanese-British singer-songwriter and model based in London who released her first EP in 2017. After signing to Dirty Hit, she released her debut studio album, Sawayama, in 2020.

Produced by hitmaker, BloodPop, ‘LUCID’ is a synthpop anthem that just begs to be danced to and sees Sawayama take on a different, more commercial sound to the rest of her debut album.

The song is fairly mainstream with its dance-pop beat and is certain to propel her more into the limelight as a pop songstress. Comparisons have been made to the likes of Lady Gaga and her 2020 album, Chromatica (which was also produced by BloodPop).

The music video is fun too, featuring Sawayama performing in an other-worldly environment alongside a reflection of herself, with a short behind-the-scenes look at the end of it.

#WildCardWednesday: Mark Ronson – ‘Nothing Breaks Like A Heart’ featuring Miley Cyrus

Mark Ronson is certainly a household name already and having released several collaborative hit tracks this year, the five-time Grammy Award-winning artist and producer now returns with a brand new single of his own, ‘Nothing Breaks Like A Heart’ featuring the incredible Miley Cyrus.

The track was co-written by both Ronson and Cyrus, alongside Ilsey Juber, Thomas Brenneck, The Picard Brothers and Conor Rayne Syzmanski, and produced by Ronson, The Picard Brothers and Jamie XX.

The track serves as the first single to be taken from Mark Ronson’s forthcoming studio album, coming in 2019. It’s also his first pop single as a recording artist since the musical phenomenon that was Uptown Funk! However he’s been busy since then, co-writing the Number 1 song, ‘Shallow’ performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, featured in Cooper’s directorial debut, A Star Is Born, as well as being a member of supergroup, Silk City (with Diplo), releasing the Top 5 UK Chart hit, ‘Electricity’ featuring Dua Lipa.

The track is already making waves around the world, with video trending highly on YouTube. The high-energy video was filmed in Kiev, Ukraine, directed by WAFLA (We Are From LA) and executive-produced by Romain Gravas (M.I.A, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Jamie XX). It features Miley Cyrus being pursued by police with a tongue-in-cheek approach to the reasons behind it. It’s clearly a big-budget affair and really well shot – definitely worth a watch!

#MellowMonday: Greyson Chance – ‘Seasons’

Greyson Chance first shot to the internet’s attention back in 2010, when his sixth-grade performance of Lady Gaga‘s ‘Paparazzi’ went viral.

Since then, he’s matured into an incredibly talented singer and equally fantastic songwriter.

This latest release, ‘Seasons’, is stunning. He stated the track essentially embodies an embracing of a new path in life; “Rather than holding onto my past, or a lifestyle that I understood, I eagerly jumped headfirst into a completely new and unknown journey.” He continued, “It was also within this moment that I no longer regretted the missteps of my past, but rather appreciated the strength and wisdom I had garnered from them.”

There has been no music video released, as of yet, but we’ll keep you updated on this.

#SundayFunday: Lady Gaga – ‘The Cure’

It’s come as a complete surprise, but Lady Gaga has literally just dropped her latest single, The Cure’, today.

After performing it for the first time at this year’s Coachella (2017), the singer has also released the track via iTunes and Spotify.

It is the first new music from the singer since last year’s album, Joanne. It’s unclear, as yet, what she plans to do with the song – could it be the sign of a new album? Or is it just a present to her adoring fans? No one knows yet.

The song itself is more of a step in the direction of her earlier music (The Fame) and is a far cry from 2016’s Joanne but it certainly is catchy. However, it does feel a little safe from the singer as it’s definitely got vibes of the current Tropical House trend but she’s definitely put her mark on it – undoubtedly it’ll chart well! I do like it though – a good track.

Unfortunately no music video has been released as yet, but of course I’m sure one will follow. Until then, see the fan-recorded debut performance at 2017’s Coachella.

The singer’s found a new maturity to his sound and his vocal abilities sound more powerful than ever! This song is brimming with passion and sincerity, married with his raspy, intense voice. It’s just incredible!

Greyson Chance – ‘Afterlife’

Greyson Chance rose to fame in 2010, when he performed Lady Gaga‘s Paparazzi at a music festival, which later went viral on YouTube.

Since then, he has been releasing his own, original songs – most recently, Afterlife. This song shows an air of maturity and sees Greyson enter into a new realm of songwriting. I really like the pop hook to it but think it’s got an interesting sound to it – the blend of high and low harmonies is intricate and beautiful. It’s a well-crafted song, to say the least.

Fleur East – ‘More And More’

Fleur East is definitely going from strength-to-strength and this song is cementing her incredible pop talent.

‘More And More’ is clearly teeming with Whitney Houston vibes but I like it as it’s bringing back that old-school disco vibe but with a slightly modern edge to it. I think this song could well be as big as ‘Sax’ was and rightly so! Enjoy!

No video has materialised yet, but we’ll keep you posted on this. In the meantime, I’ve posted her live performance of the song, from the National Television Awards 2016.

#Christmas #MellowMonday: Colbie Caillat – ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’

It’s Christmas!!!

…well, nearly!

This week, as it’s Christmas, I’m going to post a themed track, as usual, but am adding to a special Christmas playlist, each day.

Every day this week, you can expect 5 new tracks to be added to the playlist (based on the theme that day), which means by Christmas Day, you should have a special 25-track Christmas playlist! Please either subscribe to the YouTube channel or follow the playlist on Spotify 🙂

Colbie Caillat – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Released back in 2012, Colbie Caillat released a Christmas album called ‘Christmas In The Sand’. The album contained a mixture of cover songs and some originals too.

The idea of the album was to be less traditional than your usual Christmas songs, by making it more “surf-friendly” – it is much more acoustic and cheerful and the jingle bells have been turned right down!

I’ve chosen to feature her cover of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ which was originally performed by Judy Garland in 1944 and then covered, more famously, by Frank Sinatra in 1957. It’s quite a lovely song though!

Also added to the playlist today:

  • Michael Bublé – It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
  • Chris Rea – Driving Home For Christmas
  • Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga – Winter Wonderland
  • Coldplay – Christmas Lights

#Two4Tunesday: Sigma – ‘Glitterball’ featuring Ella Henderson & Conrad Sewell – ‘Hold Me Up’

Today we’re bringing you a brand new track from Sigma featuring Ella Henderson (see our previous post about the remix of their previous song, ‘Changing, featuring Paloma Faith) and a great summery song from Conrad Sewell.

Sigma Banner

Sigma are going from one featured celebrity vocalist to the next, creating their own path of smash hits and leaving some massive songs in their wake!

The duo consists of Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie, who have so far worked with the likes of Labrinth, Paloma Faith and DJ Fresh and this next release of theirs features vocals of the incredibly talented, ex-X Factor contestant, Ella Henderson.

‘Glitterball’ is such a big-production song with its almost movie-like strings alongside chaotic drum and bass beats, a gospel choir and Ella Henderson‘s fantastic vocals. I’m predicting that it’s going to be a huge hit for them; a new landmark song for Sigma.

‘Glitterball’ is due for release on 24th July 2015 and you can pre-order it now on iTunes – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/glitterball-feat.-ella-henderson/id997398173

Conrad Sewell Banner

Conrad Sewell recently gained recognition for lending his vocals to Kygo‘s hit song, ‘Firestone’ but he’s also released his own solo song, ‘Hold Me Up’.

The Australian-born singer moved to America to work on his solo project and has worked on a bunch of hit-makers, penning this one with Brian Lee (who’s worked with Lady Gaga and Icona Pop), The Euroz and Lewis Bell. He’s also embarking on the Ed Sheeran tour around Australia.

At the moment, ‘Hold Me Up’ has a tentative release date of 24th July 2015, however no pre-order has been made available yet. When it was released in Australia, the song peaked at 39 in the charts, however I reckon it’ll score a Top 20 in the UK charts, with the right promotion. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this song.

And there ends this week’s #Two4Tunesday! Enjoy them as these are two really great songs! Please don’t forget to share away to your heart’s content across your social media accounts.
