#Playlist: Brighton Pride Weekender 2018

Brighton Pride is fast approaching and to celebrate, we have created our first ever, Brighton Pride Weekender playlist dedicated to one of the city’s biggest annual events to promote equality and diversity with the aim to eliminate discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

This playlist has been lovingly crafted to include a variety of tracks, by the artists performing at Brighton Pride 2018, as well as some other great anthems!

James Arthur – ‘You Deserve Better’

James Arthur has just returned with not one, but two, new songs in the form of a double A-side single, You Deserve Better/At My Weakest.

‘You Deserve Better’ is an acoustic-driven track at the start but then goes on to see the introduction of funky bass guitars, pounding drums and rhythmic claps. The almost understated repetition of the track’s title in the pre-chorus is catchy and seems to take a hold on the listener, before James Arthur bursts into his full, powerful vocals in the chorus. It’s a brilliantly written track!

Does this signify the coming of a third album for the artist?!

No official video has been released as yet, but the paper-themed lyric video (below) should keep you going for now.

MNEK – ‘Colour’ featuring Hailee Steinfeld

To much delight from fans, MNEK recently announced that his debut album is finished and in the process of being mixed.

Earlier this year, he released the tantalising ‘Tongue’ and now he’s back with ‘Colour’ (presumably the second single from the upcoming album), which is a collaboration with singer and actress, Hailee Steinfeld.

The track comes just in time for Pride season and with the mention of rainbows 🌈 and MNEK himself being gay, we’re sure this is going to receive a lot of spins around the world, this summer.

The track is tropical house-flavoured with and almost reggae beat to it. The playful, loved-up lyrics are fun and catchy and the way the pair bounce off each other and harmonise is just perfect!

Again, no music video has been released for this track yet but the wonderfully colourful lyric video (below) should hopefully brighten up your day.

#WildCardWednesday: MNEK – ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ (Queen Cover)

This is definitely deserving of a #WildCardWednesday! I really love MNEK‘s voice and think the guy has some serious talent! I am personally a big fan of this cover, but I’m not sure that everyone will instantly feel the same.

Queen released ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ back in 1979 and it’s become a classic rock track that is danced to, sung along with and loved the world over, so doing a cover of it is quite a risky business. However, if you take this song at face value and listen to the truly remarkable vocal harmonies and intricate, quality production, then this song is pure brilliance! Forget everything you know of the original and you will love this contemporary song for what it is.

Although the original was an upbeat, uplifting and all-encompassing feel-good track, this version manages to somehow sound more mature, if a little sinister, yet still equally catchy and gripping. I just love it!

KStewart – ‘Be Without You’

KStewart has a voice to be reckoned with; her vocals can be saintly sweet or devilishly dynamic and that’s a great thing! Her musical style has some 90s vibes to it, but she’s throwing in house and garage tones to shake things up a bit!

This latest song is helping to cement just how fantastic she is and makes me even more excited to hear an album from her.

The video is a collaboration between her and New Look – I think it’s a fantastic direction for both parties – fashion promoting music and music promoting fashion – it’s a match made in heaven! You’ll also notice MNEK making an appearance in the video too. It just looks like a whole load of fun, but where KStewart is concerned, I would expect nothing less!

Sigala – ‘Say You Do’ featuring Imani & DJ Fresh

I’ve featured Sigala on Muzik Speaks, twice already, but I just can’t get enough of his summery dance vibes!

With ‘Easy Love‘ and ‘Sweet Lovin’‘ already grabbing people’s attention, there is no doubt in my mind that ‘Say You Do’ with get a great reception on release; not only has he got Imani on the vocals, adding that sweet sound into the mix, but none other than DJ Fresh has dived in to help on the production. It’s one MONSTER of a song; very reminiscent, vocally, of ‘Hot Right Now’ (featured on our Summer Songs 2015 Playlist), the smash hit for DJ Fresh.

The video is typically Caribbean which goes perfectly with the vibe of the song!

I just love this tune – I really hope Sigala will release an album of hits, just like this; it’s upbeat, fun and smile-inducing!

Matoma – ‘Running Out’ featuring Astrid S

Matoma is a Norwegian DJ and producer, known mostly for his tropical house sound.

Recently, Matoma (aka Tom Stræte Lagergren) remixed songs for the likes of One Direction, Marlon Roudette and Eminem.

This song was released back in 2015 and is a massive tropical house anthem but I’ve only just discovered it. It’s gaining popularity on the club circuits and is a tune!

Zara Larsson – Lush Life

Zara Larsson is a Swedish singer-songwriter known for winning the 2008 equivalent of Sweden’s Got Talent (Talang).

She recently worked with MNEK on a massive hit of 2015, ‘Never Forget You‘.

This solo song is due out this Friday and the video is pretty cool too (check it out below)!

I love her sound and her voice is quite similar to Rihanna‘s but there’s something interesting about her sound.

What a month! Just this past week, we made our 200th post and we had a special week of re-themed days, including #MentalMonday (Placebo), #TimelessTuesday (Queen), #OneHitWondersday (Daisy Dares You), #ThrillingThursday (Fickle Friends) and #FlashbackFriday (Sugababes).

MNEK is a Grammy-nominated, British singer, songwriter and producer, and Zara Larsson is a Swedish singer; the winner of Talang (Sweden’s version of Britain’s Got Talent). The pair have teamed up to create this infectious, dubstep/house/trap tune!

It reached Number 1 on the UK Dance Charts and is certified as platinum in Sweden.

The music video is beautifully shot – the pair perform in the stunning scenery of Iceland and it follows the story of a girl who meets a rather adorable creature/makes up an imaginary friend – it’s great!
