Scott Quinn is a Yorkshire-born, soul-synth multi-instrumentalist, whose latest track is captivatingly beautiful with its shimmering synths and passionate vocals.

‘Run’ oozes heartache and despair, tackling the emotionally-driven subject of trying to help and support someone who’s not in the right place to be helped but is already on the path of self-destruction, leaving a trail of demolition in their wake.

Quinn has spent time in the studio, working with the likes of JONES & SG Lewis and has recently toured Europe with Aquilo. All this comes ahead his first, big, headline show at the Camden Assembly on June 20th (tickets available here).

No music video has been released as yet, but as always, we’ll keep you updated if/when one emerges.

#ThrowbackThursday: Fatboy Slim – ‘The Rockafeller Skank’

Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook) is known for his incredible and creative use of samples to craft his tracks and this year sees his 1998, big beat smash hit, ‘The Rockafeller Skank’ (taken from the huge album, You’ve Come A Long Way Baby) turn 20…and it’s still as awesome as it was back then!

This particular track features vocal samples by rapper, Lord Finesse, from the track ‘Vinyl Dog Vibe’ by Vinyl Dogs, as well as ‘Sliced Tomatoes’ by Just Brothers, The Bobby Fuller Four‘s ‘I Fought the Law’ (featuring DeWayne Quirico‘s drum intro), ‘Beat Girl’ by John Barry and a guitar hook from the song ‘Peter Gunn’ by Art of Noise featuring Duane Eddy is also sampled.

It’s incredible to think that this song is made up of all those samples, each from a completely different background but when put in this context, have created something unique and truly epic in its own right.

There’s no doubt about it; this song was a big hit for his back in 1998 but it is timeless due to its distinctive sample use and sound. This could quite easily have been released in 2018 and is still as brilliant as it ever was! An incredible track by an incredible artist!

What are your thoughts of this epic Brightonian artist’s 1998 smash hit? Still love it as much today? Got a #ThrowbackThursday track to recommend us? Please leave your thoughts or song suggestions in a comment or via social media.

#WildCardWednesday: Lots Holloway – ‘World’s On Fire’

Lots Holloway is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter and all-round multi-instrumentalist who takes influences from the likes of Kate Bush, David Bowie and Talking Heads.

These influences are evident in her politically-charged debut single, ‘World’s On Fire’. I’m not usually one to go for songs with a heavy political stance to them, but this song is too good to ignore; it’s pop but with a real edgy quality to it. Her lyrics offer a unique take on the issues and pitfalls faced by her generation but are tied in with a feeling of togetherness, determination and empowerment.

Make sure you don’t miss out on the music video too (see below) – it further showcases the underlying political tone, as she performs to a backdrop of new clips and relative footage.

This single could be the makings of a blossoming career – she’s going to be one to watch!

What are you thoughts on Lots Holloway’s debut single? Are you intrigued for more? Have you got anything similar to share with us, for #WildCardWednesday? Please leave us a comment with your thoughts or feelings.

David Ford is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter who found his first successes as part of Eastbourne-based band Easyworld. I saw Easyworld support Toploader back in 2002 and that’s where my admiration for David Ford’s talents began.

Since then, Easyworld released two full-length albums and split, subsequently leading to Ford releasing a whole handful of albums and EPs.

This particular track is taken from his first solo album, ‘I Sincerely Apologise For All The Trouble I’ve Caused’ and it’s called, ‘State Of The Union’.

The music video for this song is sensational too – it was shot in one take, with the use of a loop machine, and see’s Ford playing all 12 of the instruments used in the song! He’s one hell of a talented fella!
