‘The Bird And The Worm’ was the first single to be released from The Used‘s third studio album, Lies For The Liars. The song was the band’s highest charting single at the time, reaching #9 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.

This song is epic with its heavy post-hardcore guitars and Bert McCracken‘s unique vocal style. The way he uses his voice is remarkable – such a talent to be able to blend screaming vocals with singing so seamlessly.

The music video is quirky and cool too but then you’d expect nothing less from The Used.

Do you remember this song? Have you got a different, favourite song by The Used? Or another song you’d choose? Please leave your thoughts or #ThrowbackThursday suggestions in a comment below or via our social media accounts.

Fickle Friends’ track, ‘Say No More’ is our chosen song of the day for our special #ThrillingThursday 200th post!

Fickle Friends are a new discovery for me, but being a Brighton blog, I thought we should celebrate our milestone post, with a Brighton-based band!

The band consists of members Natti, Sam, Harry, Chris and Wilson and the quintet make no false promises on delivering the perfect blend of New Wave/Indie/Pop and it’s incredible! I honestly can’t get enough of this song – it’s just what I needed to hear today!

#ThrowbackThursday: Bjork – ‘It’s Oh So Quiet’

I cannot believe that this song is 20 years old in November this year! That’s insane as I remember listening to this as a child, so clearly. It’s such a huge song and I love how it contrasts so brilliantly from the calm, quiet aspects to the massive, in-your-face jazz sections. Bjork‘s vocal performance on this track is just perfection!

This is probably bad of me not to know, but I only just found out that this in fact a cover of a cover. A singer called Betty Hutton released it in 1951, however her release was in fact an English translation cover of ‘Und Jetzt ist es Still’ by Horst Winter, released in 1948.

The video for the song is so well matched too, it see Bjork singing in slow-motion throughout the verses, around a car repair store and through a town, but during the choruses, bursts into a fully choreographed extravaganza. It’s just like a musical…it’s excellent.
