#WildCardWednesday: Echosmith – ‘Cool Kids’

Echosmith Banner

I just discovered Echosmith thanks to the new ‘Discover Weekly’ playlist I receive on Spotify due to my listening trends and this song instantly grabbed me. I’ve not heard of the band before but I found this song captivating and perfect for #WildCardWednesday.

The Indie-Pop quartet are in fact four siblings from California; Graham, Sydney, Noah and Jamie Sierota. This particular track (‘Cool Kids’) was taken from their debut album, ‘Talking Dreams’ and reached Number 13 in the Billboard Hot 100 list!

Their sound is unique and quite 80s influenced but I am certainly intrigued to listen to more of them now!

What do you think? Have you heard this before? Are you a fan? What Wild-Card songs can you recommend for us this week? Comment below please!

#MellowMonday: The Barr Brothers – ‘Even The Darkness Has Arms’

The Barr Brothers Banner

I recently discovered this song, when The Barr Brothers’, ‘Even The Darkness Has Arms’ was made the Starbucks Pick Of The Week. I downloaded the song and am very pleased I did! This Quebec quartet really brightened my day with their beautifully melodic tune.

This Canadian folk group consists of a real mixture of instruments, including an occasional use of a harp (on some songs), which you don’t see every day! While this song may be sombre it is also calming and evocative; I particularly like the way the lead guitar melody seems to almost dance around the strings.

I’ve included both the audio of the track (taken from their second album, Sleeping Operator) as well as a live video version, as this is the sort of track which some people might appreciate more, being played live.

What song is floating your boat this week? How are you easing into your Monday? Please comment below and share/tweet the link 🙂
