#WildCardWednesday: Vanessa Carlton – ‘Dreams’

Vanessa Carlton is probably most notable for her 2002 smash hit, ‘A Thousand Miles but she is so much more than that!

With 5 studio albums now under her belt, she has certainly been busy writing and recording music and touring the world. She is also now beginning to prepare a new album. However, until then, she will begin to release one cover song a month (starting with a cover of Robyn‘s ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ in March 2018), while she continues work on her upcoming sixth album.

April 2018’s cover is the huge, classic Fleetwood Mac song, ‘Dreams’. This is a very close rendition to the original but with much more haunting vocals and instrumentals, created by the subtle reverb on Carlton’s voice and the guitars. Whilst covers tend to divide opinions and people often state that they “don’t live up to the original”, this is a superb modernisation of the track and pays a brilliant homage to the original; well done Vanessa Carlton! I can’t wait to see which cover you do next!

No music video has been released, but the audio video can be seen and heard below.

Betty Who is an Australian-born singer-songwriter and musician based in New York City. She has been busy crafting her own unique brand of pop and cites Katy PerryMiley Cyrus and Robyn as some of her biggest influences.

Last year, she released an amazing cover of Donna Lewis’ ‘I Love You Always Forever’, which has been her biggest single to date. However the release of this single ‘You Can Cry Tomorrow’ (from her upcoming album The Valley) could well be even bigger.

The song is really uplifting with a brilliant hook; perfect for #FeelGoodFriday – although it looks at the concept of a relationship ending, it’s very empowering! She sings, ‘I know it’s been hard, To fight the worst part, So dance with me tonight, Baby, you can cry, Tomorrow’. It’s all about supporting you through the breakdown of a relationship and trying to stay positive. This song’s got me excited for her upcoming, second album!

No music video yet, but we’ll keep you posted!

Calum Scott first came to the public’s attention in 2015 when he appeared on Britain’s Got Talent.

Since appearing on the show, he’s released his debut single, ‘Dancing On My Own’, a cover of a song by Robyn. The track rocketed to Number 1 and although the original is beautiful, this Tiësto remix really struck a chord with me. The accompanying video is really emotional too. I am in love with this track – it really is stunningly beautiful and brimming with emotion.

Christopher is a Danish singer from Copenhagen.

I know little about him, as he’s relatively new to me, and I discovered this tune simply by looking for another song on Spotify, but this song is a true pop gem and I honestly believe will have him exploding onto the charts in no time!

The guy is now signed to a major label after he uploaded a cover of ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ by Robyn, to a great reception.

I want to hear more from this guy and hope his success in Denmark transpires over here – with a superb falsetto range and distinguishable vocal, it will be well deserved.
