#Playlist: May 2015

Hola Speakerz!

It’s time for another of our monthly playlists! As usual, we’re bringing you both a YouTube and Spotify playlist of all of this month’s featured songs!

Muzik Speaks has been alive and kicking for just 3 months now and it’s still growing fast! During this month, we’ve reached 100 followers on Twitter, and nearly have 100 Facebook likes. We also did our first interview with the awesome Ali Tabatabaee from Zebrahead – he and Ben, both from the band, were so amazing to work with!

This month’s playlist also brought you some excellent tracks from the likes of; Maroon 5, Britney Spears and Nelly Furtado as well as songs from independent acts, like Andy Jordan and Jack Peñate. We also brought you music from newcomers Life Of Dillon, Prides and Ryn Weaver and finally we threw-back of your Thursdays with Wheatus, Five (5ive), Alien Ant Farm and Will Smith.

We hope you enjoy this month’s songs, all taken from our posts throughout May 2015 – Our apologies if some of the tracks are missing from the Spotify playlist – some may not have been released yet and some may have been removed from Spotify by the artist/band.

Note: You can view the whole YouTube playlist by using the dropdown menu at the top corner of the video, or skip a song using the ‘next’ button.

#ThrowbackThursday: Alien Ant Farm – ‘Movies’

Alien Ant Farm Banner

Following last week’s early 2000s punk-rock throwback (Wheatus – ‘Teenage Dirtbag’), we’ve decided to continue the tradition with this 2001 punk rock track, Movies, by US rockers, Alien Ant Farm.

This track is not only notable for its lyrical content about love and despair, but more so for its iconic video. The aforementioned video parodies scenes from films such as Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, GhostbustersEdward Scissorhands and The Karate Kid (with a cameo from Pat Morita – from the original Karate Kid film!)

So, crank the volume to 11 and rock out!

This song definitely made its mark on my life back in 2001 – do you remember this song fondly? What’s your #ThrowbackThursday song for the week? Please share this link on social media.

‘Movies’ is taken from Alien Ant Farm’s 2001 album, ANThology, which is available to purchase on iTunes – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/movies/id13124150?i=13606007

#ThrowbackThursday: Wheatus – ‘Teenage Dirtbag’

Wheatus Banner

This #ThrowbackThursday song goes out to “teenage dirtbags” everywhere, haha!

Surely just about everyone on the planet knows this song! It’s been in films, on television, covered by the likes of Girls Aloud (of all people!) and played at teenager’s birthday parties all over the globe!

The video for this song features snippets of the film, Loser, starring Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari (also known for playing Jim Levenstein and Heather, respectively in the American Pie series).

The song’s chorus is a real belter too – it just consumes people and makes you sing along! Upon release it reached No. 2 in the UK charts.

Turn the volume up to ‘Dirtbag’ and sing to your emo-kid heart’s content.

What are your memories of this song? Where were you when you first heard it? Were you a ‘teenage dirtbag’? Please share the link on your social media 🙂
