Daft Punk are a French duo consisting of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and 15 years ago, in 2001, the electronic pair (who are possibly robotic and from another planet) released the hit song, ‘One More Time’.

The song, which was taken from their second album Discovery, took the world by storm and reached Number 2 in the UK singles chart. The song is heavily compressed and auto-tuned and that’s what gives it the signature sound. It is funky, French house and honestly is a timeless tune!

The music video for the song is interesting as it is animated and taken from the pair’s 2003 animated film, Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem.

#ThrowbackThursday: Goo Goo Dolls – ‘Iris’

After originally being written for the film, City of Angels, the Goo Goo Dolls released ‘Iris’ back in 1998. The song quickly became a fan favourite and is one of the most iconic alternative rock songs of the 1990s; it crossed that bridge from alternative rock to more adult pop and has been one of the band’s biggest songs of their career. The song was included on their sixth album, Dizzy Up The Girl and really boosted their popularity.

In fact, the song has been so popular since its release, that it’s re-entered the charts on several occasions and deservedly so; it’s INCREDIBLE! The passion in the song is just remarkable; it’s just one of those songs that you belt out at the top of your lungs and I think generations to come will continue to do so. It’s a timeless classic!

#TimelessTuesday: Queen – ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

Without a doubt, Queen are legends of the rock world; always have been, always will be!

Freddie Mercury‘s distinctive vocals blend seamlessly with Brian May‘s guitar solos and John Deacon‘s bass riffs balance perfectly atop Roger Taylor‘s drum fills, creating the mindblowingly brilliant sound that is Queen!

This song has been used in so many ways but my favourite has to be “that scene in Wayne’s World“! It’s just perfectly timed and comedically genius!

Another reason I love this song, is due to to my Dad; an amazing man! Whenever I hear this song, I have the fondest memories of him and I headbanging in our kitchen to the heavy guitar parts and that for me makes this song timeless!

Happy #TimelessTuesday everybody! Please share your timeless songs in a comment below or via our Twitter or Facebook, using the #TimelessTuesday hash tag.

#ThrowbackThursday: Cliff Edwards – ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ (Pinocchio)

Pinocchio

So today’s throwback goes all the way back to Pinocchio, released in 1940.

This was Disney’s second movie, following their first release of Snow White (1939). If you like Snow White go check out my #Two4Tunesday post!

‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ will always be one of my top Disney songs, 75 years after it’s release and I can still enjoy it today. I like how the timelessness of their films and songs really brings out a type of ‘magic’ which is truly unique to Disney.

Pinocchio is an amazing film and there are so many aspects to it I love. The animation and artwork is admirable and the storyline is great to follow!

But I think above all this comes Jiminey Cricket – the real star of the show! He’s my favourite character of this film, I think it’s the top hat that wins me over, or maybe the miniature suite and umbrella.

Anyway, make sure you listen to this classic and find Matt’s #ThrowbackThursday here.

#WildCardWednesday: Mi’das – ‘Too Little Too Late’

3085975-3 copy copy

Mi’das (aka Mike Davies) has worked hard to create his own unique blend of soul and pop, which he has combined with his trademark vocals and guitar playing.

His sound has been described as “timeless, but discernably of its time” and he has worked his way from his hometown in Brighton, around the UK and across the pond, to the USA by busking on the street as well as sharing stages with the likes of Jessie J, Rita OraLabrinth and Jamie Cullum.

He has also been featured as an iTunes ‘Ahead of the Curve’ artist in the UK and US, earlier this year.

Mi’das recently released a new music video for the second single taken from his EP (‘Stronger’) called ‘Too Little Too Late’. Mi’das describes the song as being afraid of getting old and regretting not following your dreams and this message is clear throughout the song.

The soulful gospel vibe of the song brings it a uniquely timeless feel and makes for an interesting, intriguing sound. I am genuinely excited to hear what else Mi’das has to offer in the future!
