#WildCardWednesday: Anberlin – ‘Impossible’

Anberlin Banner

This #WildCardWednesday track is the first single from Anberlin’s fifth studio album, Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place. I’ve chosen the song because Anberlin, in the UK, are relatively unknown band but accomplished so much throughout their 12 years together.

Formed in Florida in 2002, the band had a total of 7 studio albums (plus one expanded re-release) before disbanding towards the end of 2014.

The reason I have chosen this particular song is not solely due to the beautiful composition of the song but also the cinematic slow-motion shots of the accompanying music video. The video contrasts the nature of the song well and some of the patterns created by the (what I assume are) ball-bearings are quite stunning. A real masterpiece.

This track is taken from Anberlin’s, Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place album, which is available to purchase on iTunes now – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/impossible/id391965438?i=391965440

What do you think of the song and video together? Are you a lover of it? What song would you choose for this week’s #WildCardWednesday? Please share the link on your Facebook and Twitter.

#ThrowbackThursday: Owl City – ‘Fireflies’

Owl City Banner

Wow…who remembers this song then?!

I remember exactly where and how I found out about this song – it was on a little game called Tap Tap Revenge 3…remember that? What ever happened to that game?!

Anyway, I downloaded this song, Fireflies, by an unknown artist to me, Owl City, whilst playing TTR3 in my room. I must’ve played this particular level of the game at least 10 times in a row that day – I couldn’t get enough of it! I looked online everywhere to find where to download it, and couldn’t find it anywhere. It turns out, it wouldn’t be released in the UK until about 6 months later.

Anyway, I remember telling everyone that this song was going to be huge…then whatdyaknow…6 months later, the songs released in the UK and goes straight to number 1!

It’s since been covered by many people and been featured in a variety of adverts and other forms of media. Well done Owl City – you made a very good ditty!

Is there anyone who doesn’t know this song…surely not! Did anyone else play this on TTR3, like I did? And what’s throwing back your Thursday this week? Please share this link with your friends and leave a comment with your song for the week, below.

#FeelGoodFriday: Melanie Fiona – ‘Please Don’t Go (Cry Baby)’

Melanie Fiona Banner

This song defines ‘feel-good’ for me! Whenever I’m down, this is the song I play to pick myself up again! It’s catchy, it’s upbeat, it’s reminiscent of Motown with a clear soul edge to it – it’s just so HAPPY!

Melanie Fiona is from Canada and has worked with the likes of Drake; she was previously signed to Universal Motown Records but now resides with Universal Republic Records and has even received a Grammy Nomination for ‘Best Female R&B Vocal Performance’, for her single ‘It Kills Me’.

This song was never released as a single, but was instead an album track from her debut album, ‘The Bridge’. I really don’t know what more I can say about this; it’s just AWESOME!
