#WildCardWednesday: Dan Stevens – ‘Evermore’ (from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast)

There is no doubting that Disney’s re-make of their classic tale, Beauty and the Beast, is a huge success and being adored by fans, the world over. As such, it seemed a fitting time to feature one of the songs from the soundtrack for #WildCardWednesday.

I love Disney’s original animated version, in fact it’s probably one of my favourite Disney films, particularly the soundtrack. As such, I was dubious when I heard they were remaking it, with the original songs and felt even more anxious to hear that they were adding new songs too! However, the team have done a sterling job of not only reimagining such classic songs but incorporating new music, without it seeming out of place.

I have deliberately featured ‘Evermore’ today as I felt this was my favourite song from the soundtrack – it’s filled with passion and all the finesse a good musical song should have!

The soundtrack and film were stunning in just about every way; I left the cinema not only wishing that I could re-watch it immediately, but excited to see and hear the other remakes Disney have in the pipeline!

#FeelGoodFriday: Ne-Yo – ‘Friend Like Me’ (from Disney’s Aladdin)

Without a doubt, this song is the definition of feel-good! You may remember our Disney week earlier in the year and ‘Friend Like Me‘ was one of my chosen songs for that week!

Well, good news Disney-lovers, Disney are are getting set to release the mother of all cover albums on 30th October 2015, ‘We Love Disney’. The album is set to feature covers by a range of artists including Jessie J, Jason Derulo, Gwen Stefani, Fall Out Boy and of course Ne-Yo, all covering a range of well-loved Disney songs.

This is the first song to be released from the upcoming compilation and it’s hard-hitting, jazzy and downright fun! I can’t wait to hear the rest of it!

What do you think of this song? Are you a fan? Are you excited to hear the rest of the album? What’s your #FeelGoodFriday song of the week? Please leave a comment below or Tweet/Facebook us with your song choice.

#ThrowbackThursday / #ThrowbackThreesday: Disney’s Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins Banner

Oh Mary Poppins; what a truly sensational film! I recently re-watched the film for the first time in many years and I had forgotten just how magical it was! The music is incredible too; Julie Andrew’s voice is a force to be reckoned with!

The story is adapted and loosely based on some of the novels by UK author, P. L. Travers. Travers had several meetings with Walt Disney to discuss how he was and was not allowed to produce the film in relation to her character, Mary Poppins. These rather challenging meetings have since been turned into a film themselves, Saving Mr Banks.

The first song I want to include (‘Sister Suffragette’) is one which is based on the political movements at the time the film was set and shows Mrs Banks in support of the Suffragette’s in her own boisterous way.

‘The Life I Lead’ is the next song and it also relates to way life was back then. It sees a rather detached yet forceful father, who wants the have children and wants the best for them, but wants no hand in raising them. This rather tongue-in-cheek song is amusing and proves to be another stand-out track for me.

Mary Poppins – ‘The Life I Lead’

Lastly is the rather obvious track, ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’; it’s a global favourite from the film and encompasses all the joys the film holds. Julie Andrews’ delivery of the song is perfect and cements the film in everyone’s minds. I don’t think it matters how many times you hear this song, it’s still as brilliant as the first time I heard it. It’s timeless.

#MellowMonday: Lana Del Rey – ‘Once Upon A Dream’

Hello everyone and welcome to Muzik Speaks’ Disney Week!

To kick things off I have chosen Lana Del Rey’s cover of ‘Once Upon A Dream’ from Maleficent.

The original song comes from Sleeping Beauty (1959), and Lana Del Rey’s new cover from Maleficent (2014).

The newer film serves as a prequel for the 1959 film, showing the story of sleeping beauty through the perspective of the antagonist, Maleficent. Both films are amazing, probably because they’re both made by Disney!

The main actress, Angelina Jolie specifically chose Lana Del Rey to perform this song and I’m glad she did; it’s a perfect choice!

I love her adaptation, she brings some modern vibes to it without loosing out on the overall sentimentality of the original. The production of this track is just as amazing, you can hear a subtle effect on the vocals. Which just goes to show how much attention there was to detail!

I really like this track, it’s probably one of my favourite modern Disney songs. Are you a fan of these twists on old films?

Keep posted to read about more Disney tracks this week and share with you friends!
