I cannot believe that this song is 20 years old in November this year! That’s insane as I remember listening to this as a child, so clearly. It’s such a huge song and I love how it contrasts so brilliantly from the calm, quiet aspects to the massive, in-your-face jazz sections. Bjork‘s vocal performance on this track is just perfection!

This is probably bad of me not to know, but I only just found out that this in fact a cover of a cover. A singer called Betty Hutton released it in 1951, however her release was in fact an English translation cover of ‘Und Jetzt ist es Still’ by Horst Winter, released in 1948.

The video for the song is so well matched too, it see Bjork singing in slow-motion throughout the verses, around a car repair store and through a town, but during the choruses, bursts into a fully choreographed extravaganza. It’s just like a musical…it’s excellent.
